SUMMARY:Panel 2 - Advancing Sustainability in Robotics: From Green Design to Real-World Impact
DESCRIPTION:Moderators:\n Bram Vanderborght\, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and imec\nAude Billard\, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) \n  \nParticipants:\nSession 1 – Green Design (Moderator: Bram Vanderborght) \nBram Vanderborght\, Vrije Universiteit Brussel and imec\nLudovic Righetti\, New York University\nBalakrishnan Shankar\, Amrita University’s\nSharath Chandra Akkaladevi\, Profactor GmbH \n  \nSession 2 – Real-World Impact (Moderator: Aude Billard) \nBarbara Mazzolai\, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia\nCecilia Laschi\, National University of Singapore\nMirko Kovac\, EPFL and Empa\nStefana Parascho\, EPFL\n\nDescription:  \nThe growing environmental impact of technological development\, together with increasing resource scarcity and energy demands\, makes sustainable design in robotics both necessary and urgent. As robots become more widespread across industries\, natural environments\, and everyday life\, their lifecycle—from material extraction to manufacturing\, operation\, and disposal—raises critical concerns. Tackling these issues is essential to ensure that the advancements of robotics aligns with global sustainability goals. To this end\, two complementary perspectives must be integrated: sustainable design\, which reduces environmental impact through recyclable or biodegradable materials\, energy-efficient systems\, and greener production processes; and robotic solutions for sustainability challenges\, where robots contribute to environmental\, social\, and economic domains such as ecosystem monitoring\, disaster response\, and precision agriculture. This dual approach underscores the role of robotics not only as a technological field but also as a key enabler of sustainable development. \nThis panel offers a platform to explore current trends for sustainability in robotics\, bringing together academic research and applications. It will highlight ongoing initiatives and strategies aimed at advancing more sustainable practices\, including circular design principles\, energy optimization\, responsible resource use and transparent lifecycle assessment methods. The discussion will also look ahead to future perspectives\, identifying emerging trends\, open challenges\, and opportunities for innovation toward measurable and comparable sustainability performance in robotics.

SUMMARY:Panel 4 - Publish or Perish: Surviving the Paper Deluge - Is AI the solution? If not\, what is the Solution?
DESCRIPTION:Moderator\nAude Billard\, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) \n\nPanelists/Speakers \nRenaud Detry\, KU Leuven\nGreg Dudek\, McGill University\nNadia Figueroa\, Univ. Pennsylvania\nDongheui Lee\, TUM\nShigeki Sugano\, Waseda University\nKunpeng Yao\, University of Leeds\nHong Zhang\, Southern University of Science and Technology \n  \nDescription:\nAs the robotics community faces an unprecedented acceleration in publication volume\, staying at the forefront of specific sub-fields like Learning from Demonstration (LfD) has become a monumental challenge. This panel\, presented by members of the IEEE RAS Science and Technology Watch Board (STB) Science Monitoring Committee\, explores the findings of a comprehensive one-year longitudinal study designed to navigate this “paper deluge.” \nThe session will dissect the evolving landscape of LfD\, highlighting critical shifts in methodology\, benchmarking\, and cross-domain applications that emerged over the last twelve months. Beyond the technical trends\, the STB will discuss the systemic implications of information overload on research quality and the innovative strategies—from automated synthesis to collaborative “watching”—that can help researchers maintain a clear vision amidst the flood of new data.

SUMMARY:Imperial Night
DESCRIPTION:The Imperial Night on  Wednesday\, June 3\, 19:00-23:00 (exact time to be confirmed) is THE social event of ICRA. Make sure you purchase a ticket that includes the Imperial Night! \nDelegates with the appropriate ticket will be immersed in an Imperial Night! The Hofburg Palace in Vienna (usually not accessible) and the adjacent Spanish Riding School are the venues for this event. Golden and historic rooms (formerly reserved for the Austrian emperors) invite you on a sensory tour\, accompanied by Austrian culinary highlights and artistic delights. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a selfie with the Emperor or the beautiful Empress Sisi. \nPlease note: Tickets are limited to 5\,000. Don’t miss this unique event and secure your spot during ICRA 2026 registration now!\nPre-sale tickets only\, no onsite ticket sale! Your name badge serves as ticket as the Imperial night is coded on it when entitled/paid. \nExplore the venues!\nEvery participant receives a stamp pass upon entry and can collect stamps in some of the around 30 rooms. Among all completed stamp passes 50 monetary prizes will be drawn and distributed on Thursday at the VIECON (congress center). \nDetailed information\nAll participants with a valid ticket for the Imperial Night event will receive detailed event information closer to the event in a separate email. \nDresscode:\nThe setting is imperial. You might dance waltz or polka. At balls we would wear long dresses and smoking which\, of course\, is not required at ICRA. But given this is THE dinner of the year in robotics\, maybe do not dress too leisurely (no ripped jeans\, no shorts). However\, we will welcome you as you are\, means no real dress code is given. \nChildren at the event\nUnfortunately\, children under the age of 3 years are not permitted due to the regulation of the venue. Baby strollers are also not allowed and must be left in the cloakroom. No childcare service via ICRA is offered during the times of the event. For kids being 3 years or older a full companion pass is required as we have a guest number limitation. \n    \n
